Youth in Philanthropy
What is Youth in Philanthropy?
Youth in Philanthropy is an opportunity for high school students to learn about philanthropy, charitable foundations, and community agencies. Students learn the processes involved in developing criteria for grant awards, evaluating grant proposals, and awarding grant money. Any area high school student is eligible to participate.
How can I participate?
You must meet the following requirements to
participate: be enrolled in grades 9 through 12, meet
with staff from the Volunteer Center, attend at least 75% of
meetings, and be willing to dedicate time and energy to the
program. Funding will be awarded at the Volunteer Center’s "Celebration of Service" Luncheon.
Meetings will cover:
1. Introduction to philanthropy
2. What philanthropists do
3. How to develop award criteria
4. How to develop funding applications
5. Proposal submission
6. Evaluating award proposals
7. Allocating awards
8. Monitoring recipients of last year's awards
Meetings begin in October and
are held one Thursday night a month at 6 p.m.
