The Youth Connection program provides opportunities for leadership
development and civic engagement through volunteerism
.

Young people are assisted in making volunteer connections in the community. Information, training and opportunities to serve are offered. In addition to the programs listed, the Volunteer Center provides publications and technical assistance empowering young people to make a community connection through service. All projects of the Youth Connection strive to include a diverse population in all programming.

youth in service
The goal of the Youth In Service Program is to recognize young people for the service they provide to the community and to give them support in connecting to the community. School campuses enroll in the program at the beginning of each school year and agree to designate a sponsoring group or organization on the campus to oversee the program. The Volunteer Center recognizes participating schools at the Celebration of Service Luncheon and award a check to each school to use for volunteer projects the next year.    More info...

 


united way youth division
The purpose of the United Way Youth Division is to give high school students the opportunity to learn about community services provided by the Lubbock Area United Way. Through agency presentations and hands on service projects, teens receive an in depth view of United Way agencies. The United Way Youth Division is a program open to all area high school students who are interested in learning more about Lubbock area.   More info...

 


youth advisory board
The Volunteer Center Youth Advisory Board provides opportunities for young people to become proficient in the ethics and mechanics of board service. Young people are trained in the areas of trusteeship, governance, community service, and organizational leadership in order to develop lifelong habits of giving and service. Students in grades 9-12 may apply to serve on the VC Youth Board.   More info...

 


youth in philanthropy
Youth in Philanthropy is an opportunity for high school students to learn about philanthropy, charitable foundations, and community agencies. Students learn the processes involved in developing criteria for grant awards, evaluating grant proposals, and awarding grant money. Any area high school student is eligible to participate.   More info...

 


teen pacesetters camp
Young people entering 7th and 8th grades may apply to attend a five-day summer camp that provides in-depth leadership training. Each day focuses on a particular topic including identifying personal strengths, team building, community awareness, time management, agency presentations and several service projects. A designated student from each campus is offered a scholarship.   More info...

Students engage in service projects throughout the year that are challenging, rewarding and educational and serve unmet needs of the community. The YVC program also promotes a greater understanding and appreciation for the diversity of the community.   More info...
