Through Scoggin-Dickey’s nine decades of serving Lubbock, they’ve established a core value of giving back. Last year, they seized the opportunity to participate in the Volunteer Center of Lubbock’s Project-In-A-Box program, which brings meaningful service projects directly to businesses.

Discovering Project-In-A-Box

Scoggin-Dickey’s journey with Project-In-A-Box began last fall, when they decided to add a special activity to their company Thanksgiving celebration. The Volunteer Center of Lubbock provided the Scoggin-Dickey volunteers with supplies and instructions to create hygiene kits, and gave a backstory about the benefitting organization: Catholic Charities.

The basis of the project was profound. It wasn’t about grand gestures; it was about making a difference with the resources at hand. This concept resonated deeply with Scoggin-Dickey and ignited a spark of enthusiasm. Shawda, a Scoggin Dickey team member, was deeply moved, remarking, “for something that took maybe 15 minutes of my time to impact a large number of people was what really hit home with me.”

Impact Made Approachable

Scoggin-Dickey’s decision to embrace Project-In-A-Box was born out of their profound appreciation for the community that has supported them for almost a century. “Our goal is to give back whenever we can. Sometimes it’s challenging to determine what needs to get done and who needs the most help. Project-In-A-Box made it super easy and impactful,” said Shawda.

Because of its simplicity and accessibility, Project-In-A-Box was an excellent solution for Scoggin-Dickey employees. Shawda emphasizes, “Literally, all you had to do was follow the instructions. We were able to help create 96 hygiene kits in about 15 minutes. It was such an easy way to give back in a pretty impactful way.”

Strengthening Teams Through Service

Scoggin-Dickey’s journey with Project-In-A-Box was an unforgettable bonding experience for their team and infused their Thanksgiving celebration with new meaning. Shawda said about the experience, “We went through a little conga line, so to speak, and put things together. We were able to laugh, joke, and build camaraderie at the same time. I had so much response from the office that they were excited to do stuff like that and wanted to do it again.”

The impact was profound—Scoggin-Dickey’s participation in Project-In-A-Box allowed them to make a meaningful impact on their community while also strengthening team bonds and fostering a sense of purpose among their employees.

A Force for Good

Scoggin-Dickey’s experience with Project-In-A-Box exemplifies the program’s ability to make corporate volunteerism accessible, impactful, and transformative. With the help of Project-In-A-Box, they turned their dedication to community engagement into tangible change.

The Volunteer Center of Lubbock continues to unite businesses and communities through Project-In-A-Box and other service and leadership programs. Scoggin-Dickey’s journey is a shining example of how corporate volunteerism, when approachable and infused with purpose, can become a powerful force for good.
